Product Designer
I had the opportunity to work as a UI/UX Designer on Project Disti, a groundbreaking initiative by PT Laffa Kita Berjaya to digitize around 200 villages across a province in Indonesia by creating individual websites for each village. This project presented one of the most significant challenges in my career, as I was responsible for designing approximately 150 village websites within an exceptionally tight deadline of less than a month.
The project began with thorough research to understand the diverse needs of each village and identify key elements that could be standardized while still preserving individuality. I developed design concepts that prioritized simplicity and ease of implementation, ensuring that the websites would be accessible to a broad range of users. The designs were carefully crafted to balance visual appeal with functionality, ensuring that each website was not only informative but also engaging.
Throughout the process, I focused on optimizing workflows to maximize efficiency without compromising on quality. This involved close collaboration with the development team and maintaining clear communication with stakeholders to ensure alignment on objectives and expectations. Despite the time constraints, I successfully delivered designs that met the project's goals, demonstrating a combination of creativity, adaptability, and problem-solving skills.
Looking back, Project Disti stands out as a testament to the impact of thoughtful design in bridging the digital divide and empowering communities. It was an incredibly rewarding experience to contribute to a project of this scale and significance.
The biggest challenge of this project was undoubtedly the sheer quantity and tight deadline. I was given only two months to design approximately 200 village websites. Additionally, I had to ensure that the design style aligned seamlessly with the existing application design, further increasing the complexity of the task.
Despite these challenges, this project turned out to be an exciting opportunity for me. Given the tight timeframe, I decided to adopt a single-page application (SPA) concept for the websites. This approach prioritized showcasing each village's unique highlights, aiming to attract tourists and provide essential information about the villages in a clear and engaging manner.
The SPA concept not only streamlined the design and development process but also ensured that the key messages were communicated effectively, making it easier for users to interact with the websites. This decision proved to be crucial in balancing quality and efficiency within the constraints of the project.
I successfully completed this project within the allocated two-month timeframe, delivering 200 village website designs. As part of the post-production process, I conducted interviews and usability testing with a few colleagues. Since I was not directly involved in the implementation phase, I took the initiative to evaluate the design outcomes independently.
The feedback from my colleagues was overwhelmingly positive, with praise for the flow, clarity of information, and the overall user interface design. This validation reaffirmed the effectiveness of the design approach and its ability to meet the project's objectives despite the significant challenges and tight deadlines.
